Mayonnaise - Provides the creamy base of the sauce. Use a good-quality mayo for the best flavor and texture.

Sour cream - Adds a little tang and makes the sauce extra creamy.

Chipotle hot sauce - Gives the sauce its smoky, spicy kick. Use 3-4 tablespoons depending on how hot or mild you want it.

Yellow mustard - Brings tang and brightness.

Honey - Adds a touch of sweetness to balance the chipotle and mustard.

Seasoning - A little garlic powder, salt, and black pepper enhance the flavor of the sauce.

📖 See the recipe card for quantities and preparation.

This is the chipotle hot sauce I use in this recipe.

How to make creamy chipotle sauce

Glass jar showing layered ingredients before mixing, including mayonnaise, sour cream, chipotle hot sauce, honey, mustard, and seasonings.

In a medium jar (we use a 16-ounce jar) or bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, chipotle sauce, honey, yellow mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Glass jar filled with blended sauce, showing a smooth, creamy texture after mixing the ingredients.

Use a fork to stir vigorously. Use a small silicone spatula to scrape down the sides and bottom of the jar or bowl, then stir again until smooth and blended.

Taste and adjust sweetness, spice, or salt as needed.

Cover the jar with a tight-fitting lid or transfer to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 1 hour) to let the flavors blend.

When ready to use, stir well as slight separation may occur.

    Serving suggestions

This spicy, smoky, creamy sauce is super versatile. Here are a few favorite ways to use it:

    • Party appetizer dip - Serve with chicken tenders, empanadas, or sliders for an easy crowd-pleaser.
    • Sandwich or burger spread - Adds a smoky kick to grilled burgers, chicken sandwiches, or wraps.
    • Dip for fries or chips - Great with fries, potato wedges, tortilla chips, or pretzels.
    • Vegetable dip - Perfect for celery, carrots, bell peppers, or any crisp veggies.
    • Taco or burrito drizzle - Spoon or drizzle it over tacos, burritos, or quesadillas.
    • Chicken or shrimp - Works beautifully as a finishing sauce for grilled or sautéed meats.

    Storing Instructions

Store the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Stir before using, as natural separation may occur. Do not leave the sauce out at room temperature for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F.

If you're looking for more sauces and dressings to try, start with our cilantro garlic sauce. It's bright, fresh, and delicious. Our blue cheese dressing is great on salads, but it's even better for dipping. Notes

Suggested Uses: as a spread for sandwiches, burgers, or wraps; a dip for fries, chips, veggies, or party appetizers like empanadas and chicken tenders; or a drizzle for tacos, burritos, grilled chicken, or shrimp.
You can use low-fat mayo or sour cream, but the sauce will be slightly thinner.
Dijon mustard can be used instead of yellow mustard for a slightly sharper flavor.
For presentation, garnish with a sprinkle of paprika or chili powder, fresh parsley, and lime wedges.
