Canned beans are a game-changer for easy weeknight meals. They don’t require soaking or long cooking times. Somebody else did that work for you! Just pop open a can (or two) and you’re ready to go. They still pack a nutritious punch and come together in a fraction of the time.
We have nothing against dry beans. This navy bean soup is one of my favorite recipes. And Cuban style red beans are always welcome at my table. But most weeknights I don’t have a couple hours to make beans from scratch. Plus, there’s no need.
Beans from a can contain fiber and the various nutrients you find in dry beans. However, they do contain more sodium but draining and rinsing them helps eliminate some of it. And if you’re sensitive to salt most brands offer reduced-sodium varieties.
These days with prices rising at the supermarket we need to supplement meals with ingredients that are wholesome and versatile but won’t break the bank. Canned beans fit the bill! With so many brands available you're bound to find one on sale. Use them in salads, dips, soups, and stews.
